For footballers, supporters and
coaches of F. C. Velez last football season in B&H will be
remembered like one where this famous club showed to everyone something from
"old glory". It finished on 4th place in Premier league.
That was
the best result for Velez in new state.
This big success was spoilt because the football association in B&H
couldn't agree about Play- off.
Velez insisted on playing at "Bijeli Brijeg" stadium (it was Velez
stadium before the war) like host but Zrinjski was against it (Zrinjski
plays on that stadium now) .
Velez entered in to the new season
(1999/2000) with many changes: Admir Velagic (Merida Spain) and Adis Obad (Oberhausen
Germany). This changes have reflected to Velez results in first 4 games.
Velez took only 2 points.
That situation wanted rapid changes. Velez official personnel broke off a
contract with Avdo Kalajdzic, who successfully led this club last season.
Sedin Tanovic (former Velez goal- keeper) took his place.
Last season he was a coach of
Turkish club Ankaragucu. In his debut at the Velez bench he accomplished
very good result. They beat Gradina (4:0) .That was Velez's first win in
this a new championship. Scorers for Velez against Gradina were :Dzafic (2),
Zaimovic and Cemalovic.
In this game coach gave chance to some very young
players. Leader of this "new young wave" is Nedzad Serdarevic (19
years old), who is a future of this Velez generation .Beside him there are
many young players : Admir Kajtaz (playing for a national selection under
21), Mustafa Kodro , Elvis Coric, Jasmin Salcin, Darko Gubeljic, Asim
Skaljic (playing for national selection under 18) and some "older"
as Sasa Cehajic, Adnan Kadric, Elvis Sejtanic, Mili Mehremic and Alen
Rahimic ( 20-23 years old). This Velez team is one of the youngest in the
premier league and also a very promising one.
Velez aim for this new season will be achieve a result that guarantees them
playing in European competition where Velez had very good results before the
war (playing in quarter final in Uefa cup in 1971/72 season).
Condition for that will be, as in last season, a deal of the NS BiH
(Football association of BiH), NS H-B (Football association of Herzeg -
Bosnia) and FS RS ( Football association of Republika Srpska) about the
competition form in the Play-off. If the Play-off doesn't start it will be a
big hit for all teams in all championships in Bih, because Uefa will not let
our clubs to play in Europe.
